Filipino, Justin Pagila, who ironically attends a California prep school named De La Salle (no relation to DLSU Manila or I don’t think so at least…) posted a record 62 at Diablo Country Club this past Tuesday.
The 5’8″, 18-year-old junior golfer represented his school in the annual De La Salle Invitational and shot a remarkable 9-under, running off 7 birdies and a chip-in eagle on 18th. An extremely difficult course with a rating of 72.4 and slope of 134, Pagila is one of only three people to post the course record. According to Yahoo Sports:
“While Pagila’s performance was notably impressive regardless of comparable statistics, what others have done at Diablo only makes the 62 more remarkable: The course has seen a 62 carded just twice before in its 99-year history, and both of them were definitely adults.”
Lead by Pagila, De La Salle ran away with the team title, finishing 22 shots better than runner-up Christian Brothers (Sacramento).
Pagila, who graduates from high school this year, will be attending Army in the fall (alma mater of my cousin, Wilbur :)) where he’ll obviously play golf. Navy better get ready for an ass-whoopin’! -WH
