Stella Rory got his groove back!

The former world number 1 (now world number 2) rattled off 7-birdies to finish with a 5-under-par 67 in round 1 of the Wells Fargo Championship to share the lead with six other players (all Americans): Nick Watney, Ryan Moore, Robert Garrigus, Derek Ernst, Daniel Summerhays and Nate Smith.

This is the first time McIlroy has been at the top of the leaderboard all year and also the first time he’s broken par in his opening round.

Phil Mickelson had a solid day, shooting 4-under-par to land one back of the lead and tied with five other players: Boo Weekley, Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, Kevin Streelman, and Jason Kokrak.

“It’s big strides because my game wasn’t where it should have been at all at the start of the year,” McIlroy said. “Got into a couple of bad habits on my swing, and it just took me a little bit of time to get out of them.”

This is exactly what predicted! 🙂

Our second pick, Webb Simpson currently sits 2-under-par while Bubba Watson shoot a “meh” even-par.

Other favorite, Bill Haas crapped the bed with a 7-over-par after making 5 bogeys and a quadruple on par-5 7th hole!

We’re all in on McIlroy! Let’s hope he can keep the momentum going!

*On a side quip, Vijay Singh withdrawals from the tournament citing “back issues.” Hm….
