US Open Top Picks

The second Major Championship of 2013 is just around the corner. 150+ of the world’s best golfers re-converge at Merion Golf Club, PA for post-Masters bragging rights and that sweet sweet cheddar (US$1,260,000.oo).

After a successful last pick at the Memorial Tournament, here are our sure-to-win for who will win this year’s US Open:

Tiger Woods

the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance - Round Two

Hard to bet against the Tiger. Most would say a poor showing at Memorial is the start of his season downfall and by most I mean myself cause that’s what I was telling myself and everyone around me last week. However, with the year he’s been having, it’s hard to bet on anyone else. Will the pressure of getting that 15th major be too much? I think not and expect Tiger to finish at least within the top-3… let’s just pray it’s not windy at Merion and his putter is polished.

Graeme Mcdowell

The Masters - Round One

The Irishman is on a bit of a roll with wins in his last four starts (RBC Heritage and Volvo World Match Play Championship). McDowell already has one US Open win in 2010 and T-2nd last year. He would currently be ranked first in driving accuracy and first in scrambling if he had enough qualifying events. Expect McDowell to come out firing after missing the cut at this year’s Masters…

Justin Rose

I hate you Justin Rose… please please please capitalize on your 8th place Memorial finish and win this for me! Who am I kidding, I’m almost certain he’ll finish in the 20-25th bracket. Fingers crossed I’m wrong…

Henrik Stenson

Don’t let the photo above fool you. My wildcard is Stenson who currently ranks first in fairways hit / driving accuracy (70.98%) and third in Greens in Regulation (72.03%), which could play in perfectly at the shorter shorter Merion course.
He’s had an up-and-down year finishing three times in the top-10 in 10 starts and either missing the cut or barely making it the other 7. He’s better known for stripping down to his underwear but who knows… maybe he’ll pull it off. At this point, I think he’s got a better chance than Rose at least…

damn you Rose!!! I know the day I don’t pick you will be the day you win!
