Twas a good week for Mickelson! After winning the Scottish Open last Sunday, Mickelson went on to claim his first British Open Championship this past week at the very difficult Muirfield Golf Club.
In clutch fashion (something we haven’t seen from him in years), Mickelson made four birdies over his last six holes to shoot a course best 66 on the final day and win the 142nd British Open Championship.
Mickelson was the only player under par for the tournament (3-under), three better than second place finisher Henrik Stenson and T-3rd placers at 1-over overall, Lee Westwood, Adam Scott and Ian Poulter.
A great performance from Mickelson who actually started the final round of competition five shots behind then leader, Lee Westwood.
Westwood, the leader and heavy favorite going into the final round was all out of rhythm early on missing first first seven fairways. Adam Scott too the lead late and seemed destined to win his second major but once again imploded bogeying the 13, 14, 15 and 16th holes.
Tiger Woods seemed in good shape starting the final round T-2nd. However a bogey on the first hole set the tone for his entire day. Woods ended up finishing T-6th at 2-over overall.
This marks Mickelson’s fifth major title and one title away (elusive US Open) away from a career grand slam. this also marks Mulligang’s 3rd straight correct golf pick moving us to a cool 3-for-6 [50%].
