Well… Mulligang didn’t pick right but in our defense, who would’ve though that the lethargic Jason Dufner, a golfer credited for starting the lackadaisical, I’m a sweaty mess, dufnering trend, would beat out the rest of the field to win the last Major Championship of 2013?
The extremely laid-back Dufner shocked the golf world on Friday when he shot a course tying 63. Starting the final round 1-stroke behind Jim Furyk, Dufner “dufnered” his way to an easy 2-under par 68 to beat Furyk by two-strokes for his first career Major Championship.
Mulligang’s second go to, Henrik Stenson continued his “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” saga when he finished the tournament in 3rd at 7-under overall.
All eyes were on Tiger Woods who everyone, (including myself), thought would win his 15th Major after the demolition he put on the rest of the field a week prior at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Instead, Woods basically imploded and never got his mojo going. Crucial birdie opportunities and par saves were lost on the first two days when his putter let him down. Third and fourth round was when Woods’ swing got all funky missing crucial fairways with clubs (5-wood, 3 iron) he was so confident the week before. He was so lost that he attempted to go back to basics with his swing, caused a lot of media controversy… though anything Woods does is newsworthy and scrutinized. With a season gone, questions remain now whether Tiger has what it takes to break Jack’s record.
Only time will tell… until then… congrats to Jason Dufner. Well played chap!!!
